OL2000: Carriage Returns Not Pasted Into RTF Message (222405)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q222405

SYMPTOMS

If you view a Plain Text document with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5, copy several lines of the text, and then paste them into a new message that uses Outlook Rich Text Format, the carriage returns are ignored.

CAUSE

This is a problem with how Internet Explorer 5 copies carriage return information with Rich Text Formats.

RESOLUTION

Paste the text into either an HTML-formatted message or a Plain Text-formatted message. If you must paste into a message formatted as Rich Text Format, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click in the body of the message, and then click View Source. This will open the source code in Notepad.
  2. Select the text that you want to copy, making sure that you do not include any HTML tags in your selection.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  4. Paste your text into a new message formatted as Outlook Rich Text.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
