This article was previously published under Q222405 SYMPTOMS
If you view a Plain Text document with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5, copy several lines of the text, and then paste them into a new message that uses Outlook Rich Text Format, the carriage returns are ignored.
CAUSE
This is a problem with how Internet Explorer 5 copies carriage return information with Rich Text Formats.
RESOLUTION
Paste the text into either an HTML-formatted message or a Plain Text-formatted message. If you must paste into a message formatted as Rich Text Format, follow these steps:
- Right-click in the body of the message, and then click View Source. This will open the source code in Notepad.
- Select the text that you want to copy, making sure that you do not include any HTML tags in your selection.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy.
- Paste your text into a new message formatted as Outlook Rich Text.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
