OL2000: (IMO) Symantec Fax Stops Working After Upgrading to Windows 2000 (222397)

After upgrading to Microsoft Windows 2000 from either Microsoft Windows 95/98 or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, the Symantec Fax Starter Edition no longer works. When you send a fax you receive no error; however, the fax is not sent.
CAUSE
Outlook detected the operating system upgrade, but failed to run the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition Configuration Wizard again.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

To temporarily work around this problem, you can force the Symantec WinFax Starter Editon Configuration Wizard to run by starting the Olfsetup.exe program on your Microsoft Office 2000 installation CD. The Engish (US) version of this file is located in the Pfiles\Msoffice\Office\1033 folder on the Office 2000 CD.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
MORE INFORMATION
After the operating system upgrade and prior to running the Symantec WinFax Starter Editon Configuration Wizard, the port setting for the modem is blank. Running the configuration wizard will set port control to Telephony Applications Programming Interface (TAPI), and the Symantec Fax Starter Edition will work correctly.
