OL2000: (CW) Eudora Addresses Aren't Imported to Personal Address Book (222390)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q222390
NOTE: The procedures in this article only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. With this option, you can use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, click About Microsoft Outlook on the Help menu. If you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation, you see "Corporate or Workgroup".

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to import addresses from Internet e-mail programs, such as Eudora, to the Personal Address Book (PAB) using the Outlook Import/Export Wizard, the addresses are placed in Contacts instead of the PAB.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when your profile has the Outlook Address Book selected as the primary address source.

RESOLUTION

To import to the Personal Address Book, make the PAB the primary address source. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Services and click the Addressing tab.
  2. In the Keep personal addresses in list, click Personal Address Book.
  3. Click OK and then quit Outlook.
After restarting Outlook, run the Import/Export Wizard to import the Eudora addresses.

MORE INFORMATION

Although Microsoft Outlook 2000 provides support for the PAB for backward compatibility, Outlook adds all imported addresses to the Outlook Address Book by default, because it is the default primary address source.
