OL2000: Inbox Assistant Description Not Migrated to Rules Wizard (222368)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q222368

SYMPTOMS

If you upgrade Outlook 97 to Outlook 2000, and you had Inbox Assistant rules set up in Outlook 97, those rules migrate to the Rules Wizard but do not retain their descriptions. Instead the new rules are named "Inbox Assistant rule #n" where "n" is the number of the rule.

CAUSE

Inbox Assistant rules use a description, while the Rules Wizard rules use a name field. Descriptions do not migrate to name fields when upgrading.

RESOLUTION

To manually rename each rule in the Rules Wizard:
  1. In Outlook, open your Inbox.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Rules Wizard.
  3. Click to select the rule you want to rename, and then click Rename.
  4. In the New name of rule box, type the new name, and then click OK.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have renamed all rules, and then click OK, to close the Rules Wizard.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
