OL2000: Items in Mail Message May Not Print to HP 5si (222361)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q222361

SYMPTOMS

When printing a mail message from Outlook to a Hewlett Packard (HP) LaserJet 5si printer, using Microsoft Windows 95 or 98, certain elements in the message may not print. The behavior does not occur in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

CAUSE

The incomplete printing is the result of a problem with the printer driver.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior and successfully print items in a mail message, either try an alternate graphics mode in the LaserJet 5si driver, or attempt to print using another Hewlett Packard printer driver.

MORE INFORMATION

Specific elements that fail to print include:
  • Underlined text in the message body including hyperlinks
  • Lines in Strikout text
  • Icons for file attachments
  • OLE graphics
OLE graphic objects might include Microsoft Excel charts and Microsoft Word pictures, as well as objects created using some third party programs. The following sections outline steps that may allow these items to print.

To Change the Graphics Mode in the LaserJet 5si Printer Driver

  1. On the File menu, click Print.
  2. In Print, click Properties.
  3. Click the Graphics tab, and in Graphics Mode, click to select Use Raster Graphics. Click OK, and click OK again to print.

To Change Printer Drivers

Substituting other printer drivers in the Hewlett Packard Laserjet family may allow the message with OLE graphics objects to print. Suggested drivers include:
  • LaserJet 5si Postscript driver
  • LaserJet 5L Printer Control Language (PCL) driver
  • LaserJet 4si printer
NOTE: These printer drivers may not allow access to some advance features of the LaserJet 5si printer. Such features may include duplex printing and paper bin control through the driver interface.

Hewlett Packard updates printer drivers for printers on a regular basis. To obtain the most recent driver, visit the HP Web site:
