SUMMARY

Using Outlook, the HTML and Rich Text message formats preserves the euro when recipients are able to view these message formats. However, Plain Text formatting preserves the symbol only if you are using an outgoing text-encoding format that supports the symbol.

Sending the euro using plain text

To successfully send the euro in e-mail, the following two conditions must exist:
  • The font that is used must support the euro. Microsoft has made ugrades to its fonts to include the euro.
  • The language encoding used for outgoing messages must support the euro. This setting is determined by the recipient's language setting.

Configuring language encoding

To set the outgoing encoding to that of your recipient, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options and then click Mail Format.
  2. In Mail Format, click International Options.
  3. In the Use this encoding for outgoing messages list, click to select the language encoding.
  4. Click OK and OK again to save the change.
If each of these configuration items is set, the euro should appear in Plain Text messages.
