OL2000: (IMO) Upgrade Only Imports One of Multiple Personal Address Books (222243)

SYMPTOMS

After you have upgraded to Outlook 2000 from Outlook 97, you find that only one of several Personal Address Books (PAB) was converted, although account information was converted.

CAUSE

In Outlook 97 you were using two account profiles, with the original Internet Mail service, and separate PABs configured in each.

RESOLUTION

Manually import the PAB that is not converted.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

To Manually Import the PAB

NOTE: If you want to keep the addresses in the various PABs in separate Contacts folders, create the folders before beginning the import process.
  1. On the File menu, click Import and Export.
  2. In the Choose an action to perform list, click Import from another program or file. Click Next.
  3. In the Select file type to import from list, click to select Personal Address Book. Click Next.
  4. In File to import, click Browse, and then locate the PAB to be imported. Click Next. Before proceeding to the next step, if you chose to create a separate Contacts folder for each PAB, click Change Destination and in Select a Folder, click to select the alternate folder.
  5. In The following actions will be performed, ensure that the description of the PAB you are importing is selected. Click Finish.
The addresses in the PAB will be added to your Contacts folder.
