OL2000: Link Is Lost After Moving a Contact Record (222203)

SYMPTOMS

When you double-click a link to an Outlook contact from another Outlook item, such as a task or an appointment, you may receive the following error message:
The name or distribution list has been deleted and is no longer a valid Address Book entry.

CAUSE

Moving a contact record from one folder to another causes any links from other items to be broken.

RESOLUTION

If you move a contact record, manually reestablish any links to it from other items.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

To Link Related Tasks and Appointments

To link contacts to tasks or appointments, follow these steps:
  1. Open a task or appointment.
  2. In the lower-left corner of the item, click Contacts.
  3. In Select Contacts, click to select your Contacts folder from the Look in list. Click to select a contact record from the Items list and then click OK.
This will add a link to the selected contact from within the task or appointment record. Double-clicking this link will open the contact record.
