"Error -5821" on Macintosh Client Connecting to Windows 2000 Server (222168)

SYMPTOMS

When a Macintosh client attempts to connect to a Windows 2000 server running Services for Macintosh with the Microsoft User Authentication Module (UAM), the client may receive the following error message:
Error -5821

CAUSE

If the client is rejected by the server, the client is informed that an error has occurred. The "Error -5821" error message is a generic error message that does not indicate exactly what did not work.

STATUS

This is behavior is by design.

To troubleshoot this error message, the administrator should examine the user's account. Some areas to verify include:
  • Verify the password and user name.
  • Verify that the account is not locked or that the Guest account is enabled if the user is logging on as a guest.
  • Verify that an administrator can gain access to the server from the same client.
