XL97: Error When You Use Time in Solver Target Cell Value (222052)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q222052 SYMPTOMS
When you use Solver, you may receive the following error message:
Solver: An unexpected internal error occurred, or available memory was exhausted.
CAUSE
The error message occurs when you type a value with a date or time format in the Value of box of the Solver Parameters dialog box. An example is 8:30.
WORKAROUND
To avoid the error message when you perform time calculations in Solver, use the serial value of the time rather than the hours:minutes format. For example, if you type 0.354166666666667 in place of 8:30 in the Value of box of the Solver Parameters dialog box, Solver correctly returns a solution.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Excel 2000.
