- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q222018 SYMPTOMS
When you use the Add Printer wizard to install a printer port, you may receive the following error message:
A port with that name already exists. Choose another port name.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if you quit the Add Printer wizard after a new printer port is created. When you do so, the port you created is not removed, and you are then unable to create a printer port with the same name as the first one you created.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, use the previously created printer port, or remove the port from the Printers folder: - In the Printers folder, click Server Properties on the File menu.
- Click the Ports tab, click the port you want to remove, click Delete Port, and then click OK.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
