"Days to Keep Pages in History" Set to 0 Displays Web Sites (221925)

SYMPTOMS

When you set the "Days to keep pages in history" setting to 0 (zero) and then click History on the Internet Explorer toolbar, Web sites may be displayed in the History bar.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because setting the value for the "Days to keep pages in history" setting to 0 does not clear Web sites in the History folder until the following day.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, manually delete the information in the History folder:

Internet Explorer 4.x

  1. In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the View menu.
  2. Click Clear History.
  3. Click Yes.
  4. Click OK.

Internet Explorer 5

  1. In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
  2. Click Clear History.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The values 0 and 1 are interpreted as the same value in the "Days to keep pages in history" box. Either of these values results in Web sites being displayed.
