SYMPTOMS

When you double-click Inbox on the desktop, Windows Messaging may not start.

If Microsoft At Work Fax is installed, you may receive any of the following error messages:
The AWFXCG32.dll file is linked to missing export MAPI32.DLL

A device attached to the system is not functioning.
You need more memory or system resources. Close some Windows and try again.
When you double-click the Mail icon in Control Panel, nothing may happen.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Netscape Communicator version 4.5 or 4.6 is installed and Netscape Messenger is set to be used from Messaging API (MAPI) programs.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior:
  1. In Netscape Communicator, click Preferences on the Edit menu.
  2. Click Mail & Newsgroups.
  3. Click to clear the Use Netscape Messenger from MAPI-based application check box.
  4. Click OK
  5. Quit Netscape Communicator.
  6. Start the Inbox.

This procedure does not change the default mail client, but the next time you start Messenger you are prompted to make Messenger the default mail client again. Click No, and also click to select the Do not perform this check in the future check box.
