FIX: Sp_cursoropen Causes AV on the Initial Execution After LOAD (221176)

This article was previously published under Q221176 BUG #: 18544 (SQLBUG_65) SYMPTOMS Using the sp_cursoropen stored procedure with any cursor
type causes a handled access violation (AV) on the initial execution after
loading a database. If a trace flag 7502 is enabled, SQL Server
returns error 225 to the client: Cannot run
query--referenced object (name NAME NOT RECOVERABLE) dropped during query
optimization on the execution. After the AV occurs, an attempt to
load the database again gives the message "database in use." A look at
sysprocesses shows no associated spids.
WORKAROUND To work around this problem, try to execute the stored
procedure again. At the second and later execution, the problem does not occur.
STATUS Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server
version 6.5. This problem has been corrected in the Post Service Pack 5a Update
for Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. To install the Post Service Pack 5a
Update, you must have either SQL Server 6.5 SP5 or SP5a installed.
