SYMPTOMS

After you start Outlook Express, log on using an identity, and then quit Outlook Express, the next time you start Outlook Express it may use the same identity.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you quit Outlook Express without logging off.

RESOLUTION

Outlook Express 5

To work around this behavior, log off before you quit Outlook Express 5:

On the File menu, point to Identities, and then click Logoff identity where identity is the identity name you used when starting Outlook Express 5.

Outlook Express 5.01

To work around this behavior, log off before you quit Outlook Express 5.01:

On the File menu, click Exit, and then click Logoff identity where identity is the identity name you used when starting Outlook Express 5.01.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

You can create a different identity in Outlook Express for each person who uses the program. For example, you and a family member may share Outlook Express. Each of you can view your own e-mail and your own contacts by creating an identity for yourself.
