Trailing Space in Domain Name Causes Password Prompt (220977)

SYMPTOMS

After you log on to the network normally, you may be prompted for network passwords when you make connections to a network resource. You may receive any of the following messages:
The password is invalid for \\server\share. For more information, contact your network administrator. Type the password for \\server\share.
You must supply a password to make this connection.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if there was a trailing space after the domain name on the login screen.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Click Start, and then click Log Off.
  2. Click Yes.
  3. Type the domain name in the Windows login screen again.
  4. Log in normally.
