GetSecurityInfo Fails on SP4 with 87:ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER (220883)

SYMPTOMS

Calling GetSecurityInfo() to retrieve a copy of the security descriptor for a registry key handle fails with the following error:
ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER
This problem will occur only when hParent points to HKEY_CURRENT_USER and pszSubKeyName is any subkey name created using Regedit.exe or Regedt32.exe under HKEY_CURRENT_USER. There are no issues with other registry handles.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows NT service pack that contains this hotfix.
