SYMPTOMS

After you convert a database from the Access 2000 format to the Access 97 format, you notice that when you open the database in Access 97, a custom toolbar contains one or more blank buttons. When you click one of these buttons, you may receive the following error message.

In Windows 95 or 98

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
When you click Details (on Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, press ALT+D), you receive the following message:
MSACCESS caused an invalid page fault in module unknown at 0000:97840f00.
NOTE: The actual memory address may vary.

In Windows NT

You receive and error message similar to the following:
An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.

MSACCESS.exe
Exception: access violation (0xc0000005), Address: 0x650e27db
NOTE: The actual memory address may vary.

CAUSE

If you save an Access 2000 database to Access 97 format, and that Access 2000 database has a custom toolbar that has buttons that are not available in Access 97, you may see one of the errors described in the "Symptoms" section.

RESOLUTION

Before you convert an Access 2000 database to the Access 97 format, make sure you have no custom toolbars that have the following buttons:
  • Connection
  • Diagrams
  • Pages
  • Page Properties
  • Stored Procedures
  • SubDataSheet
  • Views
NOTE: These particular buttons have no Access 97 equivalents.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
