OFF2000: Invalid Page Fault with Office Assistant Character That Has Fewer Than 256 Colors (220683)

SYMPTOMS

When you choose an Office Assistant in the Office Assistant Gallery, the following error message may appear:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

If you click Details, an error message similar to the following appears:
<application> caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll at 015f:bff7a379

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you attempt to use a third-party Office Assistant character that contains fewer than 256 colors.

NOTE: All of the Office Assistant characters that are installed by Office 2000 use 256 colors.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, ensure that you are using an Office Assistant with at least 256 colors.

The following is the list of Office Assistant characters and the files associated with them. If you are experiencing the problem described above, remove any .acs files you may have on your computer that are not in the list.
