WD2000: Shortcut Key Assignment Lost Moving Macro (220637)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q220637 SYMPTOMS
When you assign a shortcut key to a Visual Basic for Applications macro and then move the macro to a different module, document, or template, the assigned shortcut key no longer runs the macro.
CAUSE
This behavior is by design. Word cannot track and maintain assigned shortcut key relationships to macros that are moved to different modules, documents, or templates.
WORKAROUND
To work around this limitation, you can re-assign the shortcut key to the macro that has been moved.
To assign a keystroke to a macro:
- On the Tools menu, click Customize.
- Click Keyboard.
- In the Save changes in box, click the current document name or template in which you want to save the shortcut key changes.
- In the Categories box, scroll to click Macros.
- In the box to the right, click the name of the command or other item.
- Any shortcut keys that are currently assigned appear in the Current keys box.
- In the Press new shortcut key box, type the shortcut key combination you want to assign.
- Click Assign.
