WD2000: Cannot Paste Symbols in the Find, Replace, Envelopes, or Labels Dialog Box (220576)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to copy and paste symbols into a dialog box, Word may not paste the symbol into the dialog box, or Word may paste an incorrect symbol.

NOTE: This problem occurs with the following dialog boxes in Word.

Dialog Box

Location

Find

On the Edit menu, click Find.

Replace

On the Edit menu, click Replace.

Envelopes

On the Tools menu, click Envelopes and Labels and then click to select the Envelopes tab.

Labels

On the Tools menu, click Envelopes and Labels and then click to select the Labels tab.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following workarounds appropriate for your situation:

Method 1: Find and Replace Symbols

To find and replace symbols in your Word document, use the Find Symbol macro.

Method 2: Envelopes and Labels

Select the text and symbols that you want to appear in either the Envelopes dialog box or the Labels dialog box before you click Envelopes and Labels on the Tools menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office XP.
