WD2000: Windows.Count Returns Incorrect Value for Hidden Documents (220553)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q220553

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications Count property with the Windows property to return the number of existing windows for a hidden document, the value returned may be incorrect.

For example, if you type the following code
Set x = Documents.Add(Visible:=False)
MsgBox x.Windows.Count
x.Windows.Add
MsgBox x.Windows.Count
x.Windows(1).Visible = True
x.Windows(2).Visible = True

the first Windows.Count returns 0 instead of 1.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use Visual Basic for Applications commands similar to those in the following example to determine if Windows.Count returns 0. If it does, you can route your commands accordingly.
