This article was previously published under Q220350 SYMPTOMS
When you insert a Horizontal Line (on the Format menu, click Borders and Shading and then click Horizontal Line) into the header or footer of a document, and then do the following:
- Save and close the document.
- Open the document in an earlier version of Word; for example, Word 97.
- Adjust the size of the horizontal line and then save and close the document.
- Open the document in Word 2000, and then, on the Edit menu, click Header and Footer.
The horizontal line resets to its original dimensions prior to editing in the earlier version of Word.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, you can cut and paste the horizontal line as a Picture in your Word document. Then, when you open the document in either version of Word, the dimensions remain as modified.
To cut and paste an image as a Picture, do the following:
- Click to select the image.
- On the Edit menu, click Cut.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
- Click to select Picture.
NOTE: You may see the following types of picture formats; any of these can be used for this resolution:
Picture
Picture (Enhanced Metafile)
Picture (GIF)
Picture (PNG)
Picture (JPEG)
- Click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
