WD2000: Incorrect Formatting Applied During Language AutoDetect (220294)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q220294

SYMPTOMS

In Word 2000, if you have Detect language automatically selected and French enabled in Microsoft Office Language Settings and you type one sentence in French followed by another sentence in English, the punctuation formatting (or other AutoFormatting) may not be applied until after the second sentence is completed rather than the first.

NOTE: Incorrect AutoFormatting may also occur with other languages.

NOTE: To select the Detect language automatically check box, on the Tools menu, point to Language, and click Set Language.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, if AutoFormat does not apply the correct formatting for the language, manually remove any incorrect spacing (or other AutoFormatting) and then apply the formatting you want to the paragraph or text.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
