WD2000: E-mail Signature Isn't Added to Reply Message (220274)

SYMPTOMS

When you send a reply to a mail message when Word is set to edit your e-mail messages, your signature file is not attached to your reply message.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you selected either of the following options for the When replying to a message option:
  • Attach original message
  • Do not include original message

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Change the "When Replying to a Message" Type

Select one of the following options in the When replying to a message list:
  • Include original message text

    -or-
  • Include and indent original message text

    -or-
  • Prefix each line of the original message
To make this change, follow these steps in Microsoft Outlook:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Preferences tab, click E-mail Options.
  3. In the When replying to a message list, select one of the following items:

    • Include original message text

      -or-
    • Include and indent original message text

      -or-
    • Prefix each line of the original message
  4. Click OK to close the E-mail Options dialog box.
  5. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.

Method 2: Send Your Reply As HTML

To send your reply as HTML, follow these steps.

NOTE: This method will not include your e-mail signature if the original e-mail message is in the Microsoft Outlook Rich Text format. In this case, use Method 1.
  1. Close the e-mail message that you want to reply to.
  2. In Microsoft Outlook, click Options on the Tools menu.
  3. On the Mail Format tab, change the Send in this message format box to HTML, and then click OK.
  4. Open the e-mail message that you want to reply to.
  5. Click Reply (or Reply to All).
Your e-mail signature is now included with your reply.

Method 3: Send Your Reply As Plain Text

To send your reply as Plain Text, follow these steps.

NOTE: This method will not include your e-mail signature if the original e-mail message is in the Microsoft Outlook Rich Text format. In this case, use Method 1.
  1. Close the e-mail message that you want to reply to.
  2. In Microsoft Outlook, click Options on the Tools menu.
  3. On the Mail Format tab, change the Send in this message format box to Plain Text, and then click OK.
  4. Open the e-mail message that you want to reply to.
  5. Click Reply (or Reply to All).
Your e-mail signature is now included with your reply.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
