WD2000: Bullets or Numbers Disappear After Converting Bordered Paragraph to Table (220224)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q220224

SYMPTOMS

When you draw a table around text to which you applied a bullet or numbering format and a paragraph border, the bullets or numbers disappear.

CAUSE

After Word converts the paragraph to a table, the paragraph has a negative left indentation. Because the left border of the table has no indentation or a positive indentation, the bullet or number does not appear inside the area of the table cell.

WORKAROUND

To show the numbering, remove the negative left indentation. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click in the paragraph whose number is missing.
  2. On the Format menu, click Paragraph.
  3. Click the Indents and Spacing tab.
  4. In the Left box in the Indentation section, change the negative value to 0", and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
