WD2000: Item in Word Mail Message Disappears After Clicking It (220205)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Word as your e-mail editor, if you insert an item (such as another e-mail message), and then click it, the inserted e-mail message disappears.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs in Word Mail when both of the following conditions are true:
  • Click and Type functionality is turned on.

    -and-
  • You are working in Web layout view.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use any of the following methods.

Method 1: Turn Off "Click and Type" Functionality

  1. Start or switch to Word.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click the Edit tab.
  4. Clear the Enable click and type check box and click OK.

Method 2: Use Print Layout View Rather Than Web Layout View

On the View menu, click Print Layout.

NOTE: If you now switch to Web layout view, you can click the inserted e-mail item and it does not disappear.

Method 3: Do Not Use Word to Edit Your E-Mail Messages

In Outlook, perform the following steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab.
  2. Clear the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box.
  3. Click OK.
