This article was previously published under Q219730

SYMPTOMS

After you convert a GIF image to a JPEG and save the page, the image does not appear when you preview it in your Web browser. The image may appear as a broken link, or may not appear at all.

If you look at the location you saved the image, the image is still in the GIF format.

CAUSE

If you modify other properties of the image, such as the size, before you click OK to apply the changes to the object, the image is converted to JPEG format, but the file name stays a GIF.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Click OK to Apply The Changes Before Switching Views

Click OK before you switch views. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the image you want to convert to a JPEG onto the page.
  2. Right-click the Image, and select Picture Properties.
  3. Click to select the JPEG option.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Make any other changes to the image, such as changing the image size.
  6. Save the page.

Method 2: Rename The Files That Were Converted to JPEG To Have the .JPG File Extension

  1. Close all open pages in the Page view of FrontPage.
  2. On the View menu, click Folders.
  3. Right-click the image with a GIF extension, and click Rename.
