The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 for Windows 2000
  • Microsoft FrontPage 2000
  • Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0

SYMPTOMS

If you open the root web of an Internet Information Server (IIS) version 4 server, create a subfolder, convert that subfolder to a subweb, and then open the subweb, when you try to save a new page in the subweb, the Save As dialog box shows the contents of the root web instead of the contents of the new subweb.

If you click on the new subweb in the Save As dialog box, you will either be able to save the new page, or you receive one of the following error messages:
Server error: The folder that would hold URL "<subwebname>" does not exist on the server.
-or-
The current operation cannot be completed because an unexpected error has occurred.
For details, see \temp\wecerr.txt
NOTE: This error does not always occur, and when the error message does appear, the page may still be successfully saved.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Create a new page in your subweb.
  2. On the File menu, click Save.

The Save As dialog box shows the contents of the root web instead of the currently open subweb.
  3. In the Save AS dialog box, double-click the new subweb to open it in a new window.

If the error message appears, click OK, and the new subweb will appear in the Save in box.
  4. In the Save As dialog box, click Save.

If the error message appears again, click OK again, and the new page will be saved to the new subweb.

STATUS
