SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to rename the root web of a disk-based web, the root web is not renamed.

NOTE: This symptom also occurs if you are using a subweb that has child webs.

CAUSE

You cannot rename the root web, even if you have a disk-based web open. This applies to all root webs, whether server-based or disk-based.

RESOLUTION

To make sure you are using a root web, follow these steps:
  1. With the web open, click Web Settings on the Tools menu, and then click the General tab.
  2. If you are using a root web, the File location is one of the following:

    • A server-based root web looks similar to the following:
      http://www.myweb.com
      http://myweb

    • A disk-based root web is a file path similar to the following:
      C:\My Documents\My Webs\myweb4
      C:\My Documents\My Webs\
