This article was previously published under Q219198 SYMPTOMS
If you have a text overlay on top of an image, you may not be able to select the text to change its formatting.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if you place a hotspot over the text overlay.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior and change the text formatting, use either of the following methods.
Method 1: Delete the Hotspot and Define a Hyperlink for the Text Box- If you placed a hotspot over the text box and image, delete it. Note that if the hotspot covers the full image, it is difficult to select the hotspot without also selecting the image. To select only the hotspot, follow these steps:
- Select the object.
- Point to the resize handle at the bottom of the object. When you see a two-headed arrow pointer, drag the resize handle to enlarge the object. Note that this operation enlarges the picture but does not enlarge the hotspot.
- Select the hotspot object, and press DELETE.
- If you want, resize the object to return it to its original size.
- Define a hyperlink for the text box. To do this, right-click the text box, and then click Hyperlink on the shortcut menu that appears.
Now you can select the text in the text box and change its formatting.
Method 2: Delete the Hotspot, Change the Text Formatting, and Reapply the Hotspot- Delete the hotspot by using the steps in Method 1.
- Select the text, and change its formatting.
- Reapply the hotspot.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
