FP2000: Save Results Output File Not Created with Extension (219182)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FrontPage 2000

This article was previously published under Q219182

SYMPTOMS

When you specify a file without giving it an extension in the Options for Saving Results of Form dialog box, the file is created without an extension. This behavior is different than the behavior of most dialog boxes in Windows 95 and 98 that automatically add the extension to the file name.

CAUSE

FrontPage does not automatically assign a file extension to a file name when you select the file format.

RESOLUTION

When you specify the name of this file, include the extension. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Insert menu, point to Form, and then click One-Line Text Box.
  2. Right-click the form, and then click Form Properties on the menu that appears.
  3. Click Options.
  4. Click the File Results tab.
  5. In the File For Results box, type "output.htm" (without the quotation marks).
  6. In the File Format box, select HTML.
  7. Click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Properties for a file name without an extension will display the file as an "Unknown file type." However, when the file is opened in FrontPage, it will open in the format specified in the File for Results dialog box.
