The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q219055 SYMPTOMS
When you protect a worksheet in Microsoft Excel, you are still allowed to paste data into certain protected cells.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when you enable the Locked property on a merged cell and you then protect the worksheet.
WORKAROUND
Do not merge cells in a protected worksheet. An alternative to using merged cells to represent labels is to use a text box.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
You can merge a range of cells into one cell using the Merge Cells command. When you protect a worksheet containing merged cells, you can still paste data into the merged cell using Paste on the Edit menu. However, you still cannot edit the merged cell.
