PUB2000: Adobe Type 1 Fonts Change When Outline Effect Applied (218659)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 2000

This article was previously published under Q218659

SYMPTOMS

If you apply the Outline effect to text in a publication and that text is set in an Adobe Type 1 PostScript font, the text appears and prints in a different font. For example, if you set some type in Atomic Sans ICG and then click the Outline check box in the Fonts dialog box, the text appears as an outline of Times New Roman.

CAUSE

Publisher requires Unicode services to apply the Outline text effect. Adobe Type Manager for Windows 95 and Windows 98 does not provide Unicode services for Adobe Type 1 fonts.

RESOLUTION

If you run Publisher 2000 on Windows NT Workstation, version 4.0 or later, and if you have Adobe Type Manager for Windows NT installed, you can apply the Outline effect to text set in an Adobe Type 1 font. Adobe Type Manager for Windows NT does provide Unicode services.
