OL2000: (CW) cc:Mail: Embedded Graphics in Messages Lost When Importing Mail Folders (218345)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q218345
NOTE: The procedures in this article only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. With this option, you can use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, click About Microsoft Outlook on the Help menu. If you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation, you see "Corporate or Workgroup".

SYMPTOMS

You are using Outlook to attach to a cc:Mail post office. You have messages stored in personal folders on the post office which contain embedded graphics. You attempt to import the messages using the cc:Mail Service Tool, Import cc:Mail Folders. After the import is complete, you find that the graphics are missing.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the technology used by Lotus to embed objects in a cc:Mail message differs from that used in Outlook.

NOTE: This behavior occurs with the Release 8 cc:Mail client. Previous client releases do not support embedding graphics in mail messages.

RESOLUTION

Using the cc:Mail client, send the graphic files as standard attachments instead of embedded objects.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
