AutoSignature vCard can't be deleted if RTF mail format is used in Outlook (218208)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
  • Microsoft Outlook 2002
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q218208

SYMPTOMS

Using Microsoft Outlook Rich Text mail format, you have added a vCard to your AutoSignature, but in some messages you prefer that the vCard not be included. Even though you delete the vCard icon in the message, the vCard is still sent. If you delete the entire AutoSignature from the message, the vCard remains in the received message.

RESOLUTION

There are two possible resolutions to this behavior.
  • Define a separate AutoSignature for use with e-mail messages where you do not want to include a vCard and make that AutoSignature the default.

  • Use either Plain Text or HTML as your mail format.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

To use an alternate AutoSignature as the default, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options and then click the Mail Format tab.
  2. Click Signature Picker and then click New. Format the characteristics of the AutoSignature and give it a distinctive name and then click OK.
  3. In the Use this Signature By Default list, click to select the AutoSignature without the vCard as the default.
  4. To use the AutoSignature with the vCard, create a new mail message and then delete the default signature. On the Insert menu, point to Signature and then click the AutoSignature which contains the vCard.
