User Access Wizard Cancel Button Is Active When Select Printer Screens Load (218106)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5

This article was previously published under Q218106

SYMPTOMS

If you press ENTER to select all default printer permissions when you use the User Access Wizard, the wizard may quit. The wizard may also quit when you set up other permissions.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Cancel button is active until the printer list is fully populated.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, wait until the Next button is active before you press ENTER.

NOTE: If you inadvertently cancel one of the User Access Wizard dialog boxes, a Confirm Cancel dialog box appears. By default the Yes button in this dialog box is active, and can cause the same behavior if you press ENTER. You should consider this when using any installation mechanism to further automate wizards or emulate keyboard strokes.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

The User Access Wizard sets permissions for all of the system resources on a per-user basis. Based on the specified user, the wizard:
  • Sets security permissions on shared folders
  • Sets security permissions on shared printers
  • Sets security permissions on shared fax printers
