Search Results Using Index Server Contain Unreadable Characters (217965)

SYMPTOMS

When you perform a search using Index Server, you may see some unreadable characters in the search results.

or

If you use Single Byte Character Set characters to search for a word, the unreadable characters may not be displayed in the abstract window, but may be displayed in the linked document.

CAUSE

This issue can occur for any of the following reasons:
  • You are using a version of Small Business Server (SBS) that you localized using a Double Byte Character Set (DBCS).
  • You used DBCS characters or a blank space in your query.
  • The search results list contains .hlp files. Index Server does not currently have a filter for .hlp files.
