"Client Must Use These Cover Pages" Rule Does Not Work in Windows 95/98 (217947)

SYMPTOMS

When you configure your BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) fax server to use the "Client must use these cover pages" rule, Microsoft Windows NT clients adhere to the rule but Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98 clients are not restricted and can use any cover page to send faxes.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the "Client must use these cover pages" rule requires the use of a remote procedure call (RPC) print provider, which is not used in Windows 95 or Windows 98.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0, 4.0a, and 4.5.
