Faxes Sent from Excel 2000 Using Small Business Server 4.5 May Not Be Rendered Correctly (217911)

This article was previously published under Q217911 SYMPTOMS
If you create a worksheet with Excel 2000, you can e-mail it using Microsoft Exchange Server or fax it using the Small Business Server (SBS) Fax service. In some cases, the worksheet may be formatted incorrectly when it is faxed using the e-mail client, but formatted correctly if it is sent as an e-mail message.
CAUSE
When you send a worksheet created in Excel 2000 in e-mail, the worksheet is formatted using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). This formatting may not be rendered correctly when you fax a worksheet using the e-mail client.
RESOLUTION
There are two workarounds for this issue:
- Send the file as an e-mail attachment instead of as an e-mail fax message.
- Print to the fax queue instead of sending the file as a fax to an e-mail recipient.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Excel 2000.
