To change the Process requests and responses on arrival option:

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2. Click the Preferences tab.
3. Click E-Mail Options, and then click Advanced E-Mail Options.
4. To automatically mark meeting requests as tentative in your calendar, click to select the Process requests and responses on arrival check box.
   
   - or -
   
   To disable the automatic marking of meeting requests as tentative in your calendar, click to clear the Process requests and responses on arrival check box.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you clear the Process requests and responses on arrival check box (no check mark) and delete a meeting request from the Inbox, the meeting request is removed, the item never appears in the calendar, and you are not prompted to send a decline notice to the organizer.

If you select the Process requests and responses on arrival check box (check mark) and delete a meeting request from the Inbox, you are not prompted to send a decline notice to the organizer. The meeting is tentatively booked, and the only way that you can generate a decline notice is to delete the actual item from the calendar.
