This article was previously published under Q217360

SYMPTOMS

If you start your computer using the "Safe Mode with Networking" option and then remove AppleTalk components, you may receive the following error message:
Could not add the requested component. The error is 0x800705B4.

CAUSE

Removing AppleTalk or its services (File Service For Macintosh and Print Service For Macintosh) is not supported when you boot using the "Safe Mode with Networking" option.

RESOLUTION

Because of Appletalk's reliance on higher-level services that are not initiated in Safe mode, you should not attempt to remove the Windows 2000 AppleTalk protocol stack and components in Safe mode.
