Modem Connection Disables Proxy Usage in Internet Explorer (217259)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 for Windows 98
This article was previously published under Q217259 SYMPTOMS
If your permanent Internet connection is through a proxy server and you initiate a Dial-Up Networking session, future Internet requests during that session are sent to the modem.
For example, you are browsing through a proxy connection and you initiate a Dial-Up Networking connection to check your e-mail, future HTTP requests are routed through the Dial-Up Networking connection instead of the proxy.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Internet Explorer defaults to using a modem connection rather than the LAN connection.
RESOLUTION
To browse through the proxy again, close the modem connection and restart Internet Explorer.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
