Game Controller Status Toggles Between OK and Not Connected (217158)

When you use the Game Controllers tool in Control Panel to check
the status of a Microsoft SideWinder Universal Serial Bus (USB) game
controller, the game controller status may toggle between OK
and Not Connected.
In addition, when you use the Game Controllers tool to test a SideWinder USB game controller, you may see random buttons light up on the screen.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true:
- The SideWinder USB game controller is connected to the game port
on your computer.
- The game port on your computer is not working correctly.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, connect the SideWinder USB game controller to
the USB port on your computer or install a working game port in your
computer.
If there is no USB port on your computer, you may be able to resolve this
issue by contacting the manufacturer of your sound card to obtain updated
drivers for your sound card.
