SUMMARY

The Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-ins for remote DNS, DHCP, or WINS administration may not be listed on the Start menu if the services are not installed.

MORE INFORMATION

By default, the remote administration snap-ins are not installed on computers that are not hosting these services. Because of this, the snap-ins are not listed on the Add snap-in option.

These tools are available in the Adminpak.msi file in the I386 folder on the Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD-ROM. You can install these tools on servers that are not hosting these services.

To install these tools, double-click the Adminpak.msi file in the I386 folder on the Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD-ROM. Respond to the prompts as appropriate. The administration tools then appear on the Start menu in the Programs group as Administrative Tools.

NOTE: The Adminpak.msi file is not available on the Windows 2000 Professional CD-ROM, but you can install it from the Server CD-ROM.
