ACC2000: Link Dialog Box Incorrectly Lists ADP in Files Of Type (216945)

SYMPTOMS

The Link dialog box incorrectly shows the extension for Microsoft Access projects.

CAUSE

In the Link dialog box, the default Files of Type setting for Access includes the extension, "*.adp."

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Locate or create an Access project file (*.adp) that has a valid connection to a SQL Server database. Close the project.
  2. Create a new Access database (*.mdb).
  3. On the File menu, point to Get External Data, and then click Link Tables.
  4. Under Files of Type, select Microsoft Access. Note that "*.adp" is included in the Access extensions.
  5. Select the Access project file located in Step 1 and click Link.
  6. Select any table from the Link Table dialog box and click OK.

    Note that you receive the following error message:
    Links can only be created between Microsoft Access database files.
