The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2001 for Macintosh
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q216636

SUMMARY

This article describes how to move a PowerPoint 98 or PowerPoint 2001 presentation to a computer that is running Microsoft Windows.

MORE INFORMATION

The Macintosh must be running system software version 7.5 or later, have PC Exchange installed, and be equipped with a disk drive that can read MS-DOS floppy disks.

  1. On the Macintosh, insert a 3.5-inch PC formated floppy disk in the Macintosh floppy disk drive.
  2. In PowerPoint, click Save on the File menu.
  3. Save the Macintosh-based file to the 3.5-inch floppy disk. Make sure that the file name ends in ".ppt" (without the quotation marks) so that Microsoft Windows will open Microsoft PowerPoint when you click the file.
  4. On the File menu, click Close.
  5. Remove the PC formatted 3.5-inch floppy disk from the disk drive.
NOTE: If your presentation is later than 1.4 megabytes in size, you must find an alternative way to transfer this data. If you have access to a network share that is connected to both Windows-based and Mac OS-based computers, you can place the files on the network and then open them from either type of computer. You can also easily move files between the computers if you have access to a Microsoft Windows NT server that is set up with Services for the Macintosh. For more information, see your Windows NT documentation.
