OL2000: (CW) Can't Change NT Password Within Outlook (216133)

NOTE: The procedures in this article only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. With this option, you can use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, click About Microsoft Outlook on the Help menu. SYMPTOMS

You are using Outlook to access either a cc:Mail post office, or a Microsoft Mail server or Workgroup Postoffice, and you need to change your Microsoft Windows NT domain password. When you attempt to change the password using Outlook, you receive the following error:
The NT Domain password could not be changed. A required action was not successful due to an unspecified error.

RESOLUTION

Change the Windows NT password as described in the "To Change Your NT Domain Password" section.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 2000.

To Change Your NT Domain Password

Using either Windows 95 or Windows 98:

  1. Click Start, click point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Passwords and then click Change Passwords.
  3. Click to select Microsoft Networking and then click OK.
  4. In Change Passwords, enter your old password and then enter and confirm the new password. Click OK.
  5. Restart Windows to log on with your new password.

Using Windows NT 4.0:

  1. Close all currently running programs and then press CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
  2. In Windows NT Security, click Change Password.
  3. In Change Passwords, enter your old password and then enter and confirm the new password. Click OK.
  4. Click Logoff and then enter your new password to log on.
