Search Generates Incorrect Event Log Messages (216037)

SYMPTOMS

The following logs are generated in the application event log. After you receive these event messages, the catalog fails to propagate.

Search Service - Search server is beginning to accept propagation for project <proj_name>.
Search Service - Unable to accept propagation for project <proj_name>. Error: 80004005 - Unspecified error.
Search Service - Unable to load catalog for project <proj_name>. Error: 80004005 - Unspecified error.
Indexer - Catalog propagation to Search server <server> in project <proj_name> succeeded.

CAUSE

The propagator does not check for the error code after calling "Update" on the Search Server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the latest service pack for Site Server 3.0.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Site Server version 3.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. service pack for Microsoft Site Server version 3.0.
