This article was previously published under Q214776 SYMPTOMS
When you insert a Microsoft Excel chart using circles, such as a pie, doughnut, cylinder, cone, or bubble, into a Word document or PowerPoint presentation, the printed version of the chart looks bitmapped.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, download and install the Microsoft Office 2001 Service Release 1 file. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site: WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, follow these steps:
- Select a print driver that can create EPS files, such as the LaserWriter 8 driver that comes with the operating system. After the EPS file is created, you can switch back to the appropriate driver for your printer.
- In Excel, create a pie chart (or other chart using a circular pattern) and place it as a new worksheet, not as an object in a worksheet.
- On the File menu, select Print.
- Next to Destination, select File.
- Under the Printer Selection, there is a drop-down menu that defaults to General. On that menu, select Save as file.
- Next to Format, select EPS Mac Enhanced Preview.
- Click the Save button, and then give this file a name.
- Create a new document in Word.
- On the Insert menu, select Picture, and then select From file.
- Find the newly created file, and click the Insert button.
The graphic will be fairly large, but it will print correctly.
To resize the chart and keep the same dimensions, follow these steps:
- Click once on the chart to select it.
- Hold down the SHIFT key and move the pointer to the lower right corner.
When the insertion point becomes a diagonal double arrow, you can drag the image to resize it. The image will retain its proportions.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac Service Release 1.
